Since the summer season is the perfect time for tourism and regional getaways, we’ve put together an itinerary for a few-day trip through the beautiful La Vallée-de-l’Or RCM. During this trip, you’ll visit the towns of Malartic, Val-d’Or, and Senneterre and immerse yourself in their charm through a variety of wonderful activities. Here’s a rundown of what to put on your list of stops!
A trip to the Golden Valley
The Abitibi-Témiscamingue Mineralogical Museum, Malartic
A visit to the Abitibi-Témiscamingue Mineralogical Museum in Malartic offers a two-part experience. First, you can take a guided tour of the museum. You’ll learn about the region’s geology and mining projects, experience a simulated earthquake, and view a collection of regional, national, and international rocks.
On the other hand, during the summer season, you can visit the Canadian Malartic mine facilities—one of the largest open-pit gold mines in the country—and discover a whole new side of this industry, which plays a vital role in the region’s economy. During the tour of the Canadian Malartic and Barnat tailings ponds, as well as the garage, a lunar landscape and larger-than-life machinery await you.
The Recreational Forest, Val-d’Or
Spanning 50 square kilometers, the Recreational Forest is located just a few minutes from downtown Val-d’Or and offers a wide range of outdoor activities for everyone to enjoy. Whether it’s winter or summer, there’s no shortage of options. You can go hiking, pick berries, and bike (mountain or road), as well as cross-country ski, sled, and ride a fat bike. There’s even a shooting range!
Le Prospecteur Microbrewery, Val-d’Or
The reputation of Le Prospecteur microbrewery is well-established. The pub-like atmosphere, the five regular beers, their seasonal offerings, and their barrel-aged brews are sure to delight both your heart and your taste buds. Plus, nestled on the building’s rooftop, the terrace offers a panoramic view of the surrounding streets. Whether you’re enjoying a refreshing lager in the sunshine or sampling an amber ale on a cooler day, it offers a laid-back space where conversation and malty aromas blend together. What’s more, if you’re feeling a little peckish, there’s plenty to satisfy your appetite.
What’s more, starting this year, you can stop by Le Prospecteur, a Bombardier factory and tasting room. This new facility is located right next to the Recreational Forest. It offers a family-friendly, welcoming space with an atmosphere that invites you to relax. So you can settle in there after a great time enjoying outdoor activities and have a nice cold one… You know! The best part of it all is that you can leave with some supplies to take home.
L’Entracte Bistro Bar, Val-d’Or
Located in historic Val-d’Or, Bar Bistro L’Entracte is the perfect place to end your day. Their menu reflects a commitment to seasonal ingredients, and the variety of bistro-style dishes caters to a wide range of tastes. The experience is enhanced by the restaurant’s ambiance, which blends modern elegance with a rustic touch, creating the ideal setting for intimate dinners, gatherings with friends, or romantic dates.
In addition, the charming terrace is the perfect spot to relax, savor your meal, and enjoy the summer breeze. Meanwhile, Bar Bistro l’Entracte regularly hosts performances by established artists. It is, therefore, a prime spot where laughter rings out and the joy of gathering over good food is ever-present.
La Station Boréale, Val-d’Or
Station Boréale offers an eco-luxury camping experience. Nestled between the forest and Lake De Montigny, it allows you to enjoy the comfort and sophistication of high-end accommodations while relaxing in a natural setting. In short, it’s a complete escape without sacrificing comfort!
The highlight: snuggling into soft sheets while gazing at the stars through a large window with a panoramic view. Located on Siscoe Island, just 10 minutes from Val-d’Or, it’s the perfect place to spend the night after a day of exploration.
The Bell River, Senneterre
The Bell River winds its way through the town of Senneterre and flows into the natural surroundings that border it. From the town center, you can rent kayaks directly at the tourist information office.
In no time at all, you’ll learn the basics of safety and how to maneuver the boat. All that’s left is to set off along one of the five routes that suits you best, depending on your physical ability, the time you have available, or simply your preference!
In addition to single and double kayaks, you can also rent canoes. This is an activity easily accessible to all types of vacationers.
