It’s stories to experience, people to meet and emotions to take home with you.
Whether you’re into hiking, fishing, or festivals, Abitibi-Témiscamingue awaits you with its must-see attractions, and you’ll discover even more.
The outdoors
Here, you don’t have to look far to breathe in the fresh air. Between the endless forests, the lakes perfect for paddling, and the trails waiting to be explored, Abitibi-Témiscamingue is the ultimate playground in all four seasons.
Thanks to Access to Outdoors, you can discover hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, or canoe-camping routes throughout the region. All you have to do is put on your boots (or skis) and get outside.
Aiguebelle National Park
2.7 billion years old rocks, a 90-metre suspension bridge spanning a fault lake, the Abijévis hills to climb, a lake perfect for launching your canoe. In short, Aiguebelle National Park is tranquility as far as the eye can see.
You walk along the watershed, you encounter wildlife, you truly disconnect. And you quickly understand why so many people return, year after year.
Festivals and events
Festivals and events are thriving in Abitibi-Témiscamingue. Music, comedy, film, games, pow-wows, equestrian events and rodeos, food fairs, book fairs, and winter festivals: there’s something for everyone, in every season.
From big shows that draw huge crowds to small, emerging projects that bring towns and villages to life, Abitibi-Témiscamingue celebrates loudly, often, and together. Simply put: if you love a lively atmosphere and events that bring people together, you’re in for a treat.
Outfitters
Looking to disconnect? A stay at an outfitter’s lodge means immersing yourself in nature. Whether it’s your first fishing trip, your annual hunt, or simply a peaceful moment by a lake, you’ll be welcomed like family. And if you want to hone your skills, the on-site guides will be happy to share their passion with you.
With us, your moose, bear, or small game hunting season will be the envy of everyone, and your fishing stories will be true. Not to mention the hearty dinners and sunsets. Pretty hard to beat!
Refuge Pageau
Here, you do more than just “see animals”. At the Refuge Pageau in Amos-Harricana, you’ll encounter orphans, rescued animals, and living stories. From Albi the moose and Stitch the bear cub to the wolves who watch you discreetly… Every turn of the trail reveals a new tale.
The guided tour is a must to understand their journeys and gain a deeper understanding of their reality. Enjoy a picnic area in the woods, the option to stay overnight in the four-season cabin, and an immersive experience by Moment Factory that tells the story of Michel Pageau’s legacy. A must-see for connecting with nature.
Mining experiences
Mining history is what shaped this region. At the Malartic Mineralogical Museum, you’ll discover why the soil here shines so brightly, then head to the Canadian Malartic Mine to see the largest open-pit gold mine in the country. Climb to the lookout to take in its full immensity.
Descend 91 metres underground at La Cité de l’Or and walk through the galleries of the Old Lamaque Mine like a miner for a day. And before leaving, stroll through the Bourlamaque Mining Village in Val-d’Or: log houses, an audio guide, and reminders of a bygone era that still resonate today. A complete immersion in the mining heart of Abitibi-Témiscamingue.
Anisipi Circuit
The Anisipi circuit is a journey to the heart of the water, the eskers, purer than anywhere else, and to the heart of the ancestral presence of the Anishinaabe. A route that blends art, history, territory, and technology, featuring three breathtaking installations by Moment Factory.
Through Amos-Harricana, you’ll discover a world where each place tells the story of both the power of the water and the wisdom of those who have always lived there. An experience as beautiful as it is essential.
La Vérendrye Wildlife Reserve
To get to Abitibi-Témiscamingue from southern Quebec, you have no choice but to cross the La Vérendrye Wildlife Reserve. For some, it’s “just a road”. For us, it’s 800 lakes, hundreds of kilometres of canoe-camping trails, endless forests, and accommodations nestled in the heart of nature.
So you can imagine it’s a paradise for fishing, canoe-camping, and cabin getaways. The perfect place for those who love to be alone with nature.
Opémican National Park
At Opémican National Park, you literally walk in the footsteps of the Anishinaabe and the log drivers who once worked here. You explore heritage buildings with fascinating stories, sleep under a sky overflowing with stars, paddle on the magnificent Lake Temiskaming, and drift along kilometres of sandy shores.
Between the rocky cliffs, the network of waterways that meander everywhere, and the hiking trails that awaken your adventurous spirit, Opémican National Park offers a truly unique experience.
Obadjiwan–Fort-Témiscamingue National Historic Site
You find yourself between an enchanted forest and a beach that plunges into Lake Temiskaming. Obadjiwan–Fort-Témiscamingue was once a major trading post in the region.
Imagine the canoes laden with furs unloading on the shore, the 2 centuries of conflict between the French and English for control of the trade, and the lives of those who lived here year-round.
And before all that, First Nations people frequented this place for millennia, nearly 6,000 years. A historical immersion that takes you far back in time.
Snowmobiling
With its abundant snowfall and thousands of kilometres of trails, Abitibi-Témiscamingue is a true snowmobiler’s paradise. You glide through breathtaking landscapes on a safe, well-maintained network. Here, winter isn’t something we endure. We it.
