Established in 1985, Kipawa is one of the youngest municipalities in the southern part of the Témiscamingue county. It is named after the beautiful Lake Kipawa, which harbors some 100 islands and deep bays. This natural gem of more than 300 km2 in size is known as one of the ten most beautiful lakes in Quebec, thanks to the quality of water and fishing. There is a boat launch at the entrance of the village. Kipawa is the gateway to the vast open spaces of ZEC Restigo and Zec Kipawa. The municipality co-exists harmoniously with the Algonquin community of Kebaowek First Nation, who hosts the annual Kipawa Countryfest in August. Fall colors are magnificent in Kipawa and many hunters travel here for moose hunting.
