The festivals and events 

Throughout the year, festivals are held in succession, giving people an opportunity to smile, dance and feast with family or friends. The winter holidays warm up the atmosphere until the arrival of spring and the events explode like flowers in summer, stretching into the last rays of autumn with the Festival du cinéma international. Abitibi-Témiscamingue is full of events, from the more traditional ones like the Festival des Guitares du Monde, equestrian and rodeos festivals, the Pow-wow, to the more original ones, such as the Festival d’humour émergent or the renowned FME or Festival d’humour de l’Abitibi-Témiscamingue.

The Refuge Pageau

Meet the moose, the wolf and the bear, but not only! The Refuge Pageau, a must-do activity in Amos-Harricana, collects abandoned or wounded wild animals and releases them into the wild when possible. The permanent boarders are waiting for you at the wood trail that runs through the site.

Famille au musée minéralogique de Malartic

Mining experiences 

Mining has been at the heart of the region’s development. Discover the geological phenomena that have shaped its rich subsoil by visiting the Musée minéralogique. At the Mine Canadian Malartic, explore the technological advancements of Canada’s largest open-pit mine. A short excursion to the nearby Belvédère observatory will leave you in awe of its vastness!

Step into the shoes of a miner for a day at La Cité de l’Or and descend 91 metres (300 feet) underground into the galleries of the former Lamaque Mine. Travel back in time at the Village-Minier-de-Bourlamaque, where charming log houses are still inhabited. With the help of an audio guide, stroll through this historic village, where the past comes to life, and uncover its history through the interactive exhibition in the historic house.

Anisipi – A water-discovery route

This large-scale project aims both to highlight the ancestral presence of the Anicinabek and their historical contribution to the region, as well as to raise awareness about the protection of water resources, particularly those produced by eskers. The Anisipi circuit, whose name means “the pure water we drink” in Anicinabe, blends art, technology, architecture, heritage, history, and natural resources. It is composed of several tourist experiences spread across the Amos-Harricana region, including three spectacular installations by Moment Factory.

Wildlife reserve La Vérendrye

Obadjiwan–Fort-Témiscamingue National Historic Site

Between an enchanted forest and a beautiful beach along Lake Témiscamingue, in a place frequented for thousands of years by First Nations, was once an important trading post, Obadjiwan-Fort-Témiscamingue. Learn the highlights of the two centuries of rivalry between the French and the English for the control of the fur trade and the lifestyle of those who inhabited the trading post permanently.
